My computer has been infected with the Trojan.StartPage.

I have not been able to delete it with my anti-virus software.

I sent the file to Symantec who told me what it was and described it as "unrepairable". They advised me to delete it and replace the file.

I seacrhed on the file name and found it, but I got the following message.

" Error Deleting file or folder.

Cannot delete ctrlpan. Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use"

I don't understand it!! I know that the virus affects the startup of the computer, so this file (if that is what it is referring to in the error message) will have to be open for me to access the computer.

The file name is " C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctrlpan.dll "

This virus is leaving websites in my homepage and in my favourites, no matter how many times I delete it from the respective areas. HELP!! What do I have to do to get rid of it?

Thanks John

First check with anti virus software, if it cannot remove the affected files manually delete them, if u cannot due to protected status, shut down all current process and try again If all the above still isnt enough the only other option i see is to Fdisk this process will erase every thing on your harddrive then use your system recovery disk that came with your computer.

NOTE: FDISK erases every thing from your hd including music files ,installed programs.
