After a while, for no reason, the CDROM, CDRW, and slave hard drive stop funtioning and are not visible in windows XP. A restart is needed to bring back the devices. I reformatted, reinstalled windowsXP, and still get the same problem. Do you have any suggestions as to where to even begin to look?

The problems could be that XP is not the operating system you should be using try using 2000 also it could be that the hardware is not connected try to get someone who knows about hardware to check your system out some parts might need to be replaced.
