Stort term Memory?

I have 256 memory installed, I installed a 512 memory card but although this is seen by the computer it is not installed, if I take out the 256 and put only the 512 in ther is still only 256 intalled. Any suggestions would be welcome.

You may need to refer to your motherboard's manual, it my be possible that your motherboard only accepts memory modules in pairs, meaning that if the first slot is 256 then the next slot should also be 256.
