Dual Personality CD-ROM. New Machine from DD in fall 2003. works beautifully. CDRom works, eg, with Aopen pack CD as it should. Now the problem. Kinkos burned illustrations onto Maxell Cd-R for book publishing. When I insert the CD, the green 'on' light flickers and then goes steady and then stops. No problem since it is not set forauto-run.

Go to My Computer and left-click on CdRom drive -- the MC window blinks and then nothing, just the MC window. R-click on CD-Rom and then 'open' and nothing happens. R-click then Properties and it shows the disc is completely full but the quantitative readings are Used - 0 bytes- 0 bytes and Free- 0 bytes - 0 bytes and Capacity - 0 bytes. In addition, the CDROM is silent the entire time. Hardware tab says working properly. Lists file system as RAW.

Returned to Kinkos and the files show up on their machine (W98). Claim no special s/w used to burn the files. Beyond that, no comprende, senor.

Suggestions? Thanks. JAP

Make sure that the software is compatible to be run with Windows XP if not select the feature to run on XP.

To start the Program Compatibility Wizard, click Start, click Help and Support, click Find compatible hardware and software for Windows XP, and then, under See Also in the navigation pane, click Program Compatibility Wizard

good luck
