I reformatted again with xp but still have the same problem ive tried it with 2 different motherboards and it didnt work on either yet the modem would work on my friends computer. I was wondering if you had any ideas. Thanks

Is there a problem with your modem connections?

Consult the documentation that came with your modem to verify that your modem is correctly connected to your computer and to your phone line Make sure that all cables are securely connected to the appropriate ports

if my modem is connected correctly, but I still have a problem.

Is your modem turned off?

To verify that your modem is turned on

Open Device Manager

Double-click Modems, right-click your modem, and then click Properties

In Device usage, select Use this device (enable) from the drop down list, and then click OK
