Extremely slow PC?

The computer is extremely slow. It can take 5 minutes to click down the start menu. My granddaughter was running the new Spongebob game which takes about 450MB of space. If I uninstall the program, the computer speeds up a little. I have tried the disk cleanup and it doesn't do much. I was unable to open one of her games that she was able to use previously. There really isn't much installed. There are no games other than very simple ones and very few stored documents as I have deleted a lot of material. A co-worker told me that this should not be happening with a new computer. Any suggestions? It takes forever to get through to the Dell tech support.

thanks for the help-

The first thing I would suggest is to check your hard-drive to see how much space you have used as well as free, your problem may not lie with your memory but having low disk space Usually when a computer's hard-drive starts having less and less space it also decreases the computers speed Being that you have already run the disk clean-up, I would recommend that you perform the defragemant option on the hard-drive This should give you a little more speed back.
