Let Data Doctors be your personal IT department today

I have a SONY VAIO 2000, Windows Me, Pentium III

My laptop will not perform the Disk Defragment function and plus when I try to start my laptop it gets stuck on the start up screen "Windows Me" for at least 30 minutes to 3 hours.

Please let me know what I should do?

In order to perform a Defrag, you must atleast have 15% of free space to be able to fully complete a defrag So number one, try getting rid of unwanted files that are not being utilzed or try backin' up for data unto to external or internal storage device (ie, ZIP disk, Floppy, CD-R/RW, DVD, Tape, etc...)

I think you should try upgrading your computer's memory By doing so, this will enable your laptop to move more quickly (hence the 30 minutes - 3hr delay...) NOTE - Be sure to check your laptop's documentation being performing a memory upgrade Make sure that you install the correct form of memory module But, before doing that, do a complete virus scan on your computer It may be possible that your computer is infected with a trojan.

Follow these suggestion, and they should fix your problem.
