I randomly surfing the internet a few days ago using Google. I went to a website once and it led to to a webpage called http://smartsearch.ws Now, every time I dial up to the internet, when I start Internet Explorer, it takes me straight to that same page. However, if you try to go to any other page from there, such as www.google.com or www.yahoo.com, it redirects the browser to http://smartsearch.ws If you type in http:// before you type the rest of the address, it takes you to the proper page. If you forget to type http:// before the address, it will redirect the page. I talked to my local college computer help desk and they suggested loading a program called spybot that would help me. We tried, but the program refuses to work on my computer. I looked at the Mircrosoft website and couldn't find anything of relevence. I want to get rid of this problem. I initially thought that I could counter it by setting my homepage to something else, but everytime I do that, the browser automatically resets it to http://smartsearch.ws How do I fix this problem (via anything short of reformatting my hard drive. I don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to.)

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thank You

Samir

PS This is only a problem for Internet Explorer. I also have a Browser called Opera, but it works just fine.

Dear Samir,

Unfortuntaely I regret to inform you, but you have been a "victim" of spyware If i'm not mistaken, in addition to your browser being redirected, you should be also receiving pop-ups and so on....To fix this issue, please download Spy Sweeper 2.2 It's fully compatible with all versions of windows This should take care of it.
