My computer is shuttting itself down spontaneously. A message appears saying "nt system authority" initiated the restart. It also says that windows can not restart because the RPC is bad, or something like that. It started doing this after it was returned from Hp the second time I sent it to be repaired. (it was sent in for different issues)

Sounds like your should use a different operting system like windows 2000 or 98 if you are using XP try to reformat with it and dont try NT its a very diffcult system to understand and handle try using 2000 its a great operating system also have the RPC check if it is bad than thats the problem.
