Ok well, well what i would do is the desktop i would hook up the printer to that computer Make a workgoup which is really easy to do just right click on my computer highlight and click on properties then the system properties screen pops up, click on the computer name tab click on the change button and in the workgroup text box type the workgroup that you would like to create and do the same for the other computer you might have to restart the computers to take effect after that share the printer on the desktop and and go to the laptop and add printer when it prompts make sure you dont click on local computer but you click on network computer Browse until you see your desktop and your printer that you have shared That always worked for me so I hope the same happens for you Enjoy!
