Spyware in your computer

i have some type of spyware that has come on to my computer. it has installed a toolbar in my browser and every time i try to go somw were on the net the"search engine" associated with this spyware is brought up, not only as my homepage but also overrides just about every other site that i am trying to view.i think i have found the file(s) on my computer, but i can not delete them because it claims they are right protected.can you offer me any help.
