Formatting a hard drive is not as difficult as it sounds, if you are replacing an older hard drive - you will first need a boot disk (in your case a recovery disk works just fine), secondly you will need to install he hard drive into the computer, once this is done you will need to boot your computer with the recovery disk in the floppy drive When your computer oots uo from the recovery disk it should see your new hard drive and begin running a setup program and may ask you several questions before proceeding
(you may be asked for a CD - if one came with your system), once done the setup program should begin formatting and installing all the application that came with the system by default leaving your computerin the state it was when you forst purcheased the machine.
