What is spyware?

Hello, I am a high school student just getting into the whole computer world and stuff. I was wondering what the heck is spyware. I'm curious because I heard my friends mentioning something on this subject, and I would just like to educate myself on spyware. The question basically is what is spyware? Can anyone help me out please. Thanx in advance.

Well spyware is a tool that detects keyloggers and other serious spy that can be in your computer roaming around through your things you can see it is just a tool that just someone will sent to you in a e-mail but here is a page to know a little about it - http://www.spychecker.com/spyware.html or you can go to google and check for more information.
