I have assembled a computer. I had it working fine until I changed the fan for the processor. Now it starts up and after a few seconds it cut off. I have to diconnect the mains to restart and again cut off.

What could be the problem?

Since it is the fan for the processor you have changed, the fan may not be connected properly and therefore is not keeping the processor from overheating This is what is causing you computer to cut off after a few seconds

Check to make sure that the fan is secured correctly on the processor and that it has been connected properly.
