Hey,

A couple of days ago i was using the computer and it pretty much blew up(small scale). it powered off completely and smoked a little as well. I took it apart and found the power supply was busted so i replaced it yesterday but on startup the hardware monitor gives ann error of only 4.24V running off one of the 5V circuits. I let the comp continue startup and it got to the windows 98 startup screen then froze. now it cant find the hard drive on startup and i cant do anything with the comp. What hardware could be at fault?? thx a lot.

Your power supply busted and you replaced it.

What might have happened is that when the power supply busted and began to smoke, it must have sent an electrical or heat surge of some sort that:

1 caused only 4.24V to be running off one of the 5V circuits from the monitor and

2 caused either a short a burn out in ther IDE connection for your hard drive resulting in the system not being able to detect it.

If your IDE hard drive connection is burned out, you will need to replace your motherboard.

If not, then you need to make sure that the IDE cable is connected properly
