Is another device also configured to the same COM port or IRQ that the modem is using?

I have installed a original XP pro, since then i have had to update my moderm driver so i can connect to the internet... now if my computer is switched off and the telephone rings the computer starts by its self this is so enoying the only way to avoid it is to disconnect the telephone from the wall. thank you and i hope you can help

Try moving an internal modem to a different expansion slot For an extarnal modem using serial port card, move the serial port card to a different slot Also for an extarnal modem use a different serial cable Go to control panel and double-click the modem icon Select the modem and click modem properties, connections, advanced connection settings Try AT, OR ATX0
