Purchased tower from college student. Told it had XP Pro op system. Found out later that not a legal op system. Can't get updates from Micrsoft. Would like to get legal XP Pro. Have been told that I can just install over illegal version without problems. Or can buy XP home but will need to wipe everything clean and then reinstall everything ( not pleasant thought). Can I just install XP Pro over what I have now and be able to save everything I have saved? Plesae help, thank you.

If you do not want to lose any data or files that are currently on your os you need to back up your files Go to this link as it explains in detail waht you need to do: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308422 That is microsoft's official website and they tell how to back up your data to another hard drive After that you can just get a windows xp cd and do an upgrade installation.
