When I double click on my folder icons on the desktop, the desktop disappears and goes to the active desktop recovery screen. When I click this button, the desktop returns to normal, but if I try to open a folder again, it won't open. Folders are also not accessable through the start menu or search. Programs can be run and files within these folders can be used through the program, but no folders will open. What do I do?

First i would say to check for viruses then

After you've ran the scan and determined whether or not you have a virus or not, remove if there is one If there isn't, then run the system file checker to see if everything is intact and in place To do this, put your Windows Xp cd in the cdrom Click start > run and type sfc /scannow Make sure there is a space between sfc and /scannow or it will not work Let it run and when it's done, reboot See if the problem persists If so, you'll probably be better off to reformat and reinstall the operating system.
