If you trying to use System Restore through the Command Prompt, that will not work.

System Restore cannot be exceuted from a command prompt If you can load Windows XP, then you can use System Restore to restore thet system state to its condition at the time a snapshot was taken of the sytem settings and configuration.

Click, Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and System Restore The System Restore window appears.

The System Restore windows gives you (2) choices; select Create a restore point and then click next.

Type a description of the restore point such as "Just before I update the video driver." The system will automatically assign the current date and time to the restore point.

Click Create and close.

If the System Restore still does not work, try booting into Safe Mode and using it there When you select Safe Mode from the Advanced Options menu, Windows XP asks if you want to go directly to System Restore rather than to Safe Mode If Safe Mode does not work, then go directly to System Restore.
