I have a 160gig hard drive in my computer. My OS is on this drive. I have well over 50gigs of stuff stored on this hard drive. My computer messes up. I took the hard drive out of the computer and put it in another as slave, but it says it needs formatting. Is there anyway I can get the information I had stored off this hard drive before losing it in a format?

You have put the hard drive in a computer where it now becomes the slave drive, where as that same hard drive was a master drive in the other computer; so what you have to is set the jumper settings on the back of that same hard drive to configure it as a slave Then your computer should be able to access it to retrieve the data stored on it.

Basically all you did was attach that hard drive to the slave connection on the data cable without configuring the drive itself to be a slave drive.
