Can't display pages from Internet using Windows XP?

I have always been able to click in the address bar and type in just the name of what I wanted to search for and it would do a search and disply the results. All of a sudden when I did this, another browser would pop up. I finally found it on my hard drive and got rid of it but now when I try to do a search from the address bar, it just shows "Page Not Found". I haven't been able to figure out how to get it back to the original state. I have not done a System Restore yet because I have installed several programs since that time. Can you help me?

Change the value data from 1 to 0, and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor, and then install Internet Explorer 6
