How do I connect to the internet?

I am trying to connect my friends computer to the internet using the internet connection wizard. Everything's going smoothly until the end of the wizard where I get an error message telling me, "The Internet Connection Wizard could not set up a dial up Networking connection for the Microsoft ISP Referral Server. The file may be missing or corrupted." What can I do?

First you must establish that your internet service is active If you do have service, have your internet service provider (ping) your computer to see if you're on the network If so, then they can get your computer on the network.
