When I turn on my computer a message comes up that states "SMART hard drive has encountered iminent failure." Is there anything I can do to fix this on my own?

Perform clean boot to clarify if the problem is caused by your computer's environment (that is, by conflicting drivers, terminate-and-stay programs or other settings that are loaded at startup) To do so:
1 Click "Start" -> "Run" and type "msconfig", press Enter;
2 Under "General" tab choose "Selective startup" and unselect ?Load Startup Items? checkbox;
3 Reboot to see if the problem persists.
4 If the problem is gone go to Startup tab in msconfig and check one item to load and reboot.
Continue adding checked startup items until you will receive the error.
