My brand new Gateway M675 17" wide screen laptop freezes or locks up while I'm in the middle of playing Command & Conquer Generals. the software is by EA games and I have followed their advice by disabling programs running in the background before playing the game, but it still locks up? the minimum requirements to play the game are exceeded with my system. Can you tell me what other areas with my system may be causing this problem, or any tips to try with it, thanks guys... great show.

Oh, is it possible to upgade my video card from 64 MB to 128 MB on my new laptop

To whom it may concern:

This sounds like a very common problems with most computer games these days Most likely your game is freezing because you do not have all your drivers updates.

-First, make sure you have all your Windows Updates which might cause some instability to your computer if it is not updates If the problem persists follow the next step.

-Second, click on start -> run -> and type dxdiag and press ok Give it about 2 minutes to load up all the information, and check which version of direct X you are running, it is suggested that you get the latest version which is 9.0b You can download the newest version of direct X from the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=141D5F9E-07C1-462A-BAEF-5EAB5C851CF5&displaylang=en

If the problem still persists after installing Direct X 9.0b follow the next step.

-Third and last solution to your problem, make sure your video card drivers are updates, this is VERY important to running most games If you have the drivers installed from gateway I would suggest you download the drivers from ATI for your video card I looked at the gateway model you have and saw that it comes with a ATI Radeon 9600 so you would go to www.ati.com to download the drivers.

After all these steps your problem should be solved, and as you said disable any programs not needed runnin in the background.

Sincerely,

Dimitrios Theodorou
