Receiving prompt "Local area connection. A network cable is unplugged." And it isn't! What shall I do to disengage this annoying "pop-up"?

First ensure that your computer is properly connected and configured to use the network are you able to use a web browser to view any web sites? if not there may be a network problem in your office or home (check the network cable to make sure that it didn't get unplugged accidentally), in your department can your friend in the office connect ok? if so the problem is in your office or home either there is a physical network problem or the network is not configured properly on your machine you'll need to get it fixed first if your machine is fine check with your local systems administrator
