Why doesn't computer do anything but beep three times

My Dell laptop is malfunctioning. When I turn it on it beeps three times and thats it. I can hear that the laptop is on.

What could be the problem?

The three beeps are a code generated by the POST (Power On Self Test) to indicate the nature of a problem First you have to find out what BIOS your computer is running.

Usually you must press F10, or Delete at a certain time during the restart to check your BIOS.

When you find out which one is running look it up in one of these sites

http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/dellbios.htm http://www.hi-tech.net/zones/help-beep.html

And it will tell you what is wrong with the computer.
