my computer acted up so I used the recovery discs to fix it, instead the recovery discs will not finish.

every time I hook my cd / dvd drive up to my cd writer drive, my computer "x's" out my cd drive and does not recognize any cd drive. I bought a new ribbon but it still does not work. My computer recognizes both drives at the start up. When I try to update the driver it says the best drive is in use. It also gives a note about a secondary IDE may not be working properly.

Please help I have tried everything.

Your secondary IDE controller on your motherboard may be faulty or damaged You did receive a message informing you that your secondary IDE may not be working properly, so that gives me reason enough to believe that there is definitely a problem there I would suggest for you to bring your pc into a local computer store and have them run a diagnostic test on it Have them explain to you what the problem is Chances are that you will probably have to replace it P.S You also might want to consider upgrading your operating system It's always a good idea to have the most current operating system for everything to run smoothly Good Luck!!
