How do you get rid of Adware/Spyware?

I installed weatherbug on my computer. I did not know that it was a monster I uninstalled it but I have all kinds of hidden files and some can't be deleted. How can I get rid of the problem. My conputer keeps going to about blank and I cannot change my home page sometimes it just lockes up. Thanks
