My HP Scanjet 3970 scans text ok, but when I scan a colored photo, the photo is yellow on half of the photo.

Thanks.

There are a number of reasons you may be seeing incorrect colors Some basic things to check include making sure the glass on the scanner is clean and if you are using a document feeder, try a manual scan instead Also, try different scanning software to see if the problem might be software related.

If none of those produce different results, you most likely have a hardware issue with the scanner and it will need to be repaired or replaced If it's newer and under warranty, contact the manufacturer (in your case HP - www.hp.com ) or out of warranty you probably will want to replace it as the cost of a new scanner is probably not much more than repair of your old one.
