What is screen saver?

Sometimes when I start up my Gateway Solo 9500, four blue happy faces appear in the top left corner of the screen. this also happens at times when coming out of stand-by. I am running XP Pro which a friend installed for me and i want to know if its a bad thing

It appears that you've somehow downloaded some spyware or other virus

you should delete the program in the add remove programs in control panel.
