bought usb2 to ide converter. plugged into usb2 port, plugged in power cable. hardware and drive were recognized by system. hardware and drive appear in system information, device manager, drive management, but do not appear in "my computer". there is no way to access the drive if it does not show up in "my computer". main drive in computer is ntfs. i have external (250 gb) maxtor usb drive plugged in - works fine. (is fat 32)
new (old) drive is very old- probably fat 16. shows up in system info as either 2.0 or 4.0 and active.
is supposed to be 8 gb.
but still should show up in my computer.
if i plugg flash drives or other external drives in, they show up fine.

Assuming you have Windows XP; Right click on My Computer, select Manage, then click Disk Management Here you'll be able to partition and format the drive Once you do that the drive will appear in My Computer Or if there's an error it might state that in Disk Managment as well.
