Hard Drive is making loud noise

hard drive is making a loud running noise. computer is 3 years old...gateway

This question was answered on August 26, 2004. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

All hard drive make some sort of noise but if the noise coming out of it is loud clicking that mean it could be your hard drive going out off business.

But before you go get a new one Try running chkdsk -f on your c:/ drive and restart your system because you cannot check an active drive or fix if windows is running

Also check if your system has smart drive bios technology it will give you a error report in bios if your drive is failing

Also there are third parties software problems that can diagnose a failing drive .
