Use a win98 boot-floppy or your Dos backup that matches the operating system in your defective boot partition Boot- from A-drive. Then try to access C: next, see if the data is intact You can usually run Scandisk (from the start command or chkdsk) If I/O is damaged (read and write paths) and are unable to do so, check your file structure and start backing up your files If scandisk runs but shows some errors (save to floppy when requested or second drive) you may be able to transfer your i/o info with a sys c:\ if this works your in luck, reboot and verify if there are more than a few areas that are truncated or fragmented, better concentrate on only the data from your software You can reinstall your programs later Reformat your partition as necessary (High level format is dos level: commands are format c:\ then add your system with sys c:\) fdisk is also handy but be cautious when using it You cannot usually undo mistakes at that level (Make sure you save your windows/command files on another drive or floppy, before attempting format That will ensure use of dos files when needed.

Good Luck!
