Windows XP offers a feature called system restore, it allows you to go back to previous point before changes to your Operating System.

1 Click the start menu

2 scroll to accessories; go to system tools; scroll down to system restore

3 once at the system retore window you should see an restore point which will be in a bold face number

4 click next to continue

note: though system restore will not delete anything that's saved, you should still make a back up of your important documents

good luck
