How do I get rid of a virus?

I have a virus on my Dell laptop. It is in my task manager file and ina sound file. It is called backdoor-cjy, Is ther any way to get rid of it without having to completley reload all of my software? I have used several adware sorces with no luck. I have Mcafee virus protection but it cannot remove the virus.

Ok, your antivirus software should be run from a clean boot Using a startup diskette (or CD-ROM) is the best solution Boot from a clean startup disk and then run the antivirus software.
