When I turn on my Dell Laptop I get and Mmtask error caused a general protection fault in module MMXSWPOO.DLL. Can you help me?
This question was answered on October 28, 2004. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
Try the following it should work.
While booting up, you’ll start to see the desktop hold down the shift key.
This will bypass the startup menu If you still hang then it’s coming from either the WIN.INI or the registry.
If it works then looking in the startup folder and pull everything out Then when you are able to boot up with out any problems you may want to start putting them back in one by one till you get the problem and that’s the bad guy.
If holding the shift doesn’t work take a look at the win.ini (you can do this by going start - run - sysedit) put a ; in front of run and load= like this
;run=
;load=
reboot and see if that works If it doesn’t then you need to look in registry I believe the key is
Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\run
in the run see if there is anything but default there if there is double click it and put a ; in front of each of the lines.
