Why does my monitor display "out of frequency range, lower resolution"?

i pressed something on my desktop, while in the process of fixing my background. now my monitor is completely black with a message saying "out of frequency range, lower resolution"

This question was answered on October 28, 2004. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.


The problem here is surprisingly enough your driver settings The refresh rate for your monitor is probably limited to 60hz at such a high screen resolution;

Solution: Go and change your Refresh Rate Overrides To get right click on your desktop, click properties, go to the settings tab, click Advanced, then click the "Nvida 5200" tab Under Direct3D settings there should be a Refresh Rates Override menu

Now Select Override Refresh Rates Then go down the list and find the setting that applies to you and change the refresh rate from Default to 60hz, which i think is the Lowest setting.

If this doesn't help I think you should get a new monitor…
