I have Internet explorer 6 Windows XP SP2 Windows office Professional SP2.

Windows update works BUT

Office update says that I do not have IE5 or better and on forcing the question I get a message that the computer is a MAC when it is a DELL 5100 Inspiron.

Files iecont.dll, iecontlc.dll and ieunit.inf seem to be missing when searching the system

DELL says the only solution is reload Windows XP and this eliminates all other programs and tahes days. microsoft will not listen to me as I have a DELL OEM XP version

Sorry, but the reason why Microsoft can't help you, is because OEM disks are distributed by the computer manufacturer and therefore you will have to contact Dell for a replacement, That is if you don't already have it When you got the computer there should have been some disk in the package Once you get the disk from Dell you can restore whatever damaged file there is in your system.

Good Luck!
