It is definitely a Win 98 problem, but alas, since I need to run programs under Windows, I can't switch OS's

The problem is totally intermittent (comes & goes) Happens when "nothing is happening" (I leave the computer on with nothing running, come back and FREEZE!)

Re-boot i the only solution The "Scandisk" is skipped (just hit return and accept).

it also sounds like you may have a corrupt file somewhere in there, or two programs that don't get along together.

Check your Windows help for System File Checker (SFC) then follow the directions for running it.

Defrag your hard drive regularly.

If you continue to have problems, invest a few bucks in Norton Utilites 2001 It'll fix most any software problem.

Good Luck!
