About every third time I boot up my computer, I get a blue screen with an error message, saying an error has occurred, and I can hit Cont Alt Del to do a restart (which usually works).

Then it shows a file name:

SYMEvent (01) + 00001077B Error: 0E: 0028: C0097453

A repair guy recently put in a new modem for me and this problem has happened since that.

Anything you can do to help would sure be appreciated by this cybertard....

You have a problem with the driver that was installed with the modem, try startin your computer in safe mode, you could do this by pressing the F8 key when your computer is booting up, you will get many options but the one you will pick is SAFE MODE.

After you boot up in safe mode uninstall the modem driver and look for the one that is compatible with your system (If you dont have the driver download it from the manufacturers site) Make sure you have downloaded the drive before you do this.
