No Connection

all of a sudden when i click start there is no "connection" word that i can click to dial up the internet. i have dial up/56k and when i go into network connections it says my modem is fine but a network cable is unplugged. i have never had broadband just dial up so why all of a sudden does my computer not recognize my modem and thinks that i have dsl/broadband? what can i do to dial up the internet again?

If you repaired Windows XP that had Service Pack 1 installed with a CD without Service Pack, your network connections through your ISP will not function Only direct connections will still work.

You must install Service Pack 1 to fix this problem.

Hopefully you have it burned on some CD or saved it on your HD.
