What can I do to unfreeze my icons and internet connection.

after wakeing up windows XP the left hand part of my start menune is missing and my "all programs" won't open and I can't open or close my internet connection untill I do a restart.

click on the 'Applications' tab on top of the (Control alt deleate)Task Manager and then click on the 'New Task' button on the bottom of the window Type in EXPLORER and click the 'OK' button That will cause the desktop and taskbar to reload
