Why do I receive the message, "Sound card may be in use"?

Problem with audio, get a message that said sound card may be in use.

Have you checked all media settings and volume control? Also, check all your physical connections Have you also removed/reinstalled drivers? You can go to "http://www.esstech.com" for drivers,but you will need to unzip them.

This might sound strange but the type of modem you have can also cause this problem Some modems use an ESS chipset for sound which will of course tend to interfere with onboard sound or sound cards using another ESS chipset
