The computer is taking so long to load up - at least 10 minutes sometimes - When I do control, alt & delete - there are numerous programmes running - some of which I have never heard of including ...

webrebate0...webrebates1...bargains...ryvwt...winadalt

and so the list goes on - I would like to stop some of these programmes automatically loading at start up and see if that speeds it up - have searched your website but cannot find the 'misconfig' command to remove some of them when I tried that - typed it in run as you suggest but it said cannot find.

Daren't remove them from my start up menu as don't know if that will permanently delete them - and if not how I load them when I do need them.

As you will have gathered - I am a novice with little knowledge of the computer runnings...It is a shared computer and I suspect my daughter has done 'something' to it on one of the many sites she has visited

PLEASE HELP - one very frustrated lady

Many thanks in anticipation

) Make sure you have a 7200rpm drive

2) Defrag your boot drive

3) Go through your programs and remove stuff you don't need

4) Get a copy of Startup Cop somewhere and make sure you're not loading crap you don't need

5) Check your services - don't run stuff you don't need

6) Run Adaware

7) Make sure you've got plenty of RAM It's so cheap you might as well make sure that's not an issue :)
