Did you try updating the drivers?

My dvd rom is not reading the dvd's and cd's what should I do?

Try updating the drivers on your DVD/CD Rom

You can do this by going to:

1)Control panel

2)Performance and maintenance

3)Systems

4)In system properties click on Hard ware

5)In hard ware click on Device Manager

6)In Device Manager expand the DVD/CD ROM Drives

7)Right click on your DVD Drive and click on Update Driver.
