HI, I have one 80gb seagate HDD and i have 4gb of video/music/pics very nicely categorized so i would like to partition my 80gb HDD to a 6gb HDD just for my multimedia files and other important documents because i had to reinstall my OS and lost all my files because i don't have any CD storage would hold 6gb's. I do have a program called "Partition Magic" but i didn't use/install it yet. I need to know how to Partion my drive without Formatting my HDD. If i reinstall my whole XP, will it erase my new partitioned drive? I need to know details about this Please have advice ready for me.

You can use Partition Magic to repartition your drive without having to reinstall Windows However, it is always highly advisable to back up any important data before doing so I have never had a problem with loading data when repartitioning using Partition Magic But, this isn't a simple disk operation and things do go wrong

When you do have your drive partitioned, reinstalling windows should have no effect on partitions other than the one you are installing to However, the same rule as above applies If you have data that is important - back it up.
