Why does'nt pictures or images display on the internet?

All my would-be pictures and images are showing up as an empty box outlined with a thin black line. There is a small icon? showing up in the extreme upper left corner of the box. The icon is a tiny box with a little colored triangle, square, and circle in it.It is a .bmp file.

( i went to internet options and went to advanced and "show pictures" is already checked)

I'VE TRYED EVERYTHING!!!! PLEASE HELP
