My Grandad has a problem with his computer dialing to the internet. It's nothing to do with the problems on my other threads, its a totally seperate computer.

He is running Windows 98 and has a dial up BT internet connection. When he clicks on connect, this error appears

"Failed to connect to remote computer. Could not detect modem. It may be in use, turned off or not installed properly."

OR

"The port was disconnected due to hardware failure"

He isn't keen on mucking about with settings before asking someone who knows what they're doing and I clearly don't have a clue, I thought someone on here might be able to help me.

99% of 98 modem problems where the problem is not hardware can be solved by uninstalling/reseating/and reinstalling the modem.
