I am trying to find out how to transfer files from my old laptop (with Windows ME) to my new PC (with Windows XP) using a USB-USB data connection. I do not have Ethernet on the old laptop, so this is a problem. I have searched for "File Transfer" on the old laptop, and the only way it says to do this is with "infrared". Is there another way?

Usb data transfer cables are available, they are not expensive and they come with the driver software to work with windows That will setup a network between the two computers and allow you to transfer files You may have to tell windows which files and folders are allowed to be shared by turning on file and printer sharing.
