How to format my computer?

I have 2 questions. I am a newbie for computers and I do not know anything about DOS, so I do not know how to format my computer. I need instructions on how format a computer step by step.

Question 2: When formating my computer, I want to keep my files. How do I do that?

You can get a software named "Partition Magic", using this method you'll be free of risk to missing your files.

If you don't want to by any software, you should be very careful partitioning your computer, I recommend not to do it, but if you want to learn how to do so, here's a good address: http://pcworld.about.com On the search window, write "partitioning hard drive".
